I cannot talk about the UK without speaking about the Pub and night clubs which animate every British city . They are entirely part of the local culture and economy and full of people each night, which profit to a lot of waiters and bartenders who depend on tips. By the way, I think that the weather acts in this way of life. People go to the Pub to discuss, listen to music, sing, eat, play cards and even work in a cool and relaxed atmosphere. So, open a designer Pub on the main street and you should become rich. There are all sort of Pubs in Bournemouth, from the most traditional Irish pub “O’Neills” with its guitar players to the most unusual like “the Chaplin’s” and its blues and rock’n’roll music. There are many live shows. However you shouldn’t forget your I.D before going out because of the vigil who guard the entrance. One of my 30 year old friends has been turned down because of that.
One of my best experiences was in Piccadilly Circus in London where I did with a friend a Pub crawl. We went to different places each hour because we had special prices on the drink.
During the week-end, many people go to the Pub before heading to one of the several dancing clubs of the town. From the opposite to France, night clubs open and close earlier, from 10pm to 3 or 4am. One of the most famous clubs of Bournemouth is Cameo and its 4 different theme rooms. In UK, clubs have the most original place. Thus one club is located in the old fire station and even better, another one is inside a church. It shows how much devoted are the Britishs. Another of their customs mostly regards the young and even older ladies who are clubing. Fat or thin, they feel that they must dress like some…naughty little girl. Under the rain, the snow, below 10 degree, they abolish the nudity taboo. Overhere you’ll have the opportunities to see some of the best and worst visions you’ll ever see in your life. And when you think that you have seen the most unbelievable dress code, there is always someone to remind you that you are wrong.
Nevertheless, a big advantage of the English clubs is that you don’t have to be compulsory well dressed to get in and you can also get inside in a fancy disguise. So don’t be surprised if someone who looks like Pikachu comes to speak to you. Another one (or drawback according to your mind) is the drink prices which are cheaper than in France. About the safety, there are security guards at each corner to kick out every disorderly people and there are plenty of cabs all around, very useful for the drunken night.
Halloween has been a good party. I spent the afternoon before looking for a cheap costume or scary artefact. I found a plastic axe to fix on my head. But, I forgot it in the store and did a round trip to finally break the axe on my way back. So, I joined all my disguised friends (in vampire, bat, flower pot…) except me who had to carry the axe by hand all the night. We went to two different clubs where we followed the traditional habit: it’s my round!
